"Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy" is the theme for the World Youth Day in 2016. The Catholic youth of the world will meet in Krakow Poland to celebrate their faith and learn and teach about their place and responsibilities in the world. Pope John Paul II, now a saint, started the World Youth Day in 1984, after a Synod of Bishops on youth.
The gathering of youth is truly a sign of hope for the future.
you sent your only Son into the world to show us that he is the way, the truth, and the life. Give our youth the grace and courage to follow your Son as they journey toward you.
May this World Youth Day inspire our youth to give witness to the joy of the gospel, to be a sign of hope to our world, and to lead others to know your mercy.
Send forth your Holy Spirit to guide and protect them. Lead them to know your loving care, and bless the work of their hands and hearts.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
